Museum of Tomorrow
Rio de Janeiro, 2015
" Museum of Tomorrow is an Applied Sciences museum which explores the opportunities and challenges which humanity will be forced to tackle in the coming decades from the perspective of sustainability and conviviality. Launched December 2015 by Rio de Janeiro City Hall, Museum of Tomorrow is a Culture asset from Rio's Secretary of Culture currently managed by IDG (Instituto de Desenvolvimento e Gestão). Example of a well-succeeded partnership between public power and private initiative, it has already received over three million visitors since opening. With Santander Bank as a Master Sponsor and a wide network of partner sponsors as - Shell, IBM, IRB-Brasil RE, Engie, Grupo Globo and CCR, the museum was originally conceived by Roberto Marinho Foundation. "
In 2015, the company that I was working on, 3D Criar, was called by Rio de Janeiro Architects to produce 200 3D printed models of the Museum of Tomorrow to be given to all the construction investors and partners of the project.

I was in charge of the 3D modeling of the museum, that was done in Rhinoceros 3D. To support they gave me only some architectural drawings and some construction pictures.
It was a great challenge since the museum is a masterpiece of architectural concept created by Santiago Calatrava, and is extremely complex with many movable parts and organic shape. Also I had a big problem concerning the quality of the mesh, that Rhino sometimes allows but can compromise the 3D printing process. In the end, the model was printed in a Zprinter in plaster with high details and super fragile, needing a acrylic cover to protect it.

The acrylic base was also projected to be with the same floor pattern and with all the pools next to the building. It was laser cut and glue all together, also we had a protective transparent shell.
Due to the short deadline I called my great friend Guilherme Celeste Ribeiro to help me with some 3D modelling.
